We have demonstrable experience and expertise in the build, ownership and operation of a wide range of services from single sites through to large capital intensive, technically advanced, mission critical systems and networks.

We offer the full range of capabilities, personnel and processes to meet the requirements of landlords and operators alike when deploying and operating any type of wireless communications network. This offering has been tested across time, technology and geography and has a track record of success. National Grid Wireless has developed expertise in the core activities required for any wireless network deployment. These activities include but are not limited to:

  • Site Acquisition - including planning regulations and landlord negotiations
  • Site Design - including structural, mechanical and electronic design
  • Build - including vendor selection, logistics, installation and commissioning

The company has an enviable record in the deployment and operation of analogue and digital TV and radio services for example the company owns and operates the BBC's UK transmission network. National Grid Wireless built, and now operates, the world's first completely outsourced mobile telecommunications network. This innovative project was undertaken for T Mobile in Northern Ireland.

National Grid Wireless also has access to over 13,500 independent wireless communication sites throughout England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. These sites offer a range of building types and structures for mobile and other wireless communications companies to locate their equipment.

Most recently the company was awarded licenses to operate two of the six digital terrestrial television (DTT) multiplexes. As a consequence National Grid Wireless enables major media companies such as BSkyB, MTV and Emap, amongst others, to bring their TV and radio services to Freeview - the free-to-air digital television service. National Grid Wireless is also one of three shareholders, along with the BBC and BSkyB, in the Freeview brand.

The National Grid Wireless headquarters are in Warwick and employs approximately 750 staff across 33 locations - providing it with a strong regional presence and support base the length and breadth of the UK.
