John Ward

John Ward


John Ward - Managing Director

John Ward was appointed Managing Director of National Grid Wireless in April 2007. Prior to this John had been Director, Network Operations and Engineering for the company and was responsible for the operation and maintenance of the broadcast and wireless telecoms networks provided by National Grid Wireless throughout the United Kingdom.

John Ward joined National Grid Wireless in 1997 following the company's acquisition of the BBC's Home Service Broadcast Transmission Division where he held a number of Senior Management and broadcast engineering positions. Following a number of years in network operations and maintenance, John transferred to the BBC engineering and projects department in 1989. Initially in charge of the antenna engineering section, he later became responsible for the communications and control systems needed in complex broadcast transmission networks. John was subsequently appointed Head of the Department, overseeing capital projects within the UK and overseas for the BBC World Service.

John holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering and is a graduate of Henley Management College.


Jim Colby

Jim Colby - Director, Network Operations and Engineering

Jim Colby was appointed Director Network Operations and Engineering in April 2007 He has full responsibility for ensuring that the broadcast and telecommunication networks designed and deployed by National Grid Wireless provide the highest levels of service for the company's new and existing customers.

Jim joined National Grid Wireless in July 2004 and for the last two years has had the responsibility for operational customer service delivery and network operations of the directorate.

Jim has over 10 years experience in operational customer service and delivery within the telecommunications industry.

Prior to joining National Grid Wireless, Jim spent 13 years at Cable and Wireless in a number of Customer and operational roles including Director Global Operate and Assure governance across all regions.


Angela Dennehy

Angela Dennehy - Director, Legal Services and Company Secretary

Angela Dennehy was appointed Director, Legal Services for National Grid Wireless (formerly known as Crown Castle UK) in July 1997 following the company's acquisition of the BBC's Home service Broadcast Transmission Division.

Angela oversees the provision of legal services, including the provision and management of the legal division and management of its outsourced legal service providers. As Company Secretary, she is responsible for the company's statutory compliance and the maintenance of the company's statutory books and records.

Angela joined the BBC as a Property Solicitor in 1983 and was Senior Property Solicitor in charge of the BBC's Property Legal section from 1985 to 1997. Between 1995 and 1997, she coordinated an internal review of the proposed privatisation of the corporation's transmission service and ran the data rooms for the sale of BBC Transmission.

Angela graduated from Keele University in 1978 with a joint honours degree in English and Law. She is currently a practising solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales.


Graham Greener

Graham Greener - Director, Site Operations

Graham Greener joined National Grid Wireless (formerly known as Crown Castle UK) in March 2002 as Director of Site Operations and is responsible for the delivery of installed sites to meet customer demand. He is also responsible for ensuring excellence in terms of project execution.

Graham has more than 10 years UK and international programme management experience of major telecommunications infrastructure projects and he has more than 20 years experience of senior project and company management expertise.

He joined National Grid Wireless from Fluor Telecom, part of the US engineering and programme management company, Fluor Corporation, where he was Projects Director.


Rita Maguire

Rita Maguire - Director, Human Resources

Rita joined National Grid Wireless (formerly known as Crown Castle UK) in January 2004 as Director, Human Resources. She is responsible for the companies people strategies, with particular focus on performance management.

Rita previously worked in various operational and strategic roles within the Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Group (R&SA). Most recently, Rita was chief people officer at Sequence (UK) Ltd, R&SA's corporate Estate Agency, and sat on the board that implemented a major change management programme. This programme involved retraining two thousand staff, harmonising terms and conditions, and implementing new reward, and performance management strategies.

Rita is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (FCIPD).


Ben Quinn

Ben Quinn - Director, Asset Management

Ben joined National Grid Wireless (formerly known as Crown Castle UK) in March 2002 as Director of Asset Management and is responsible for maximising the value of the company's existing assets and ensuring the strategic fit of all new assets into the company's existing portfolio.

Ben has over 20 years' experience in property and construction consultancy, including five years as a developer in the US with R.S. Silver & Company. His expertise in this area covers the complete range of activities in property and construction and stood him in good stead when he transferred these skills to cellular telecommunications and joined One 2 One as a Project Manager on their initial network rollout. Most recently, Ben worked at BT Cellnet (now O2) as Head of Acquisition and, later, Head of Radio Network Services.

Ben is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and is married with two teenage children.


Mark Watkins

Mark Watkins - Director, Sales and Business Development

Mark Watkins was appointed Director of Sales and Business Development in October 2007. In this latest role, Mark has responsibility for enhancing the relationship of the organisation with its range of blue chip customers (including the BBC, Vodafone, Sky, T-Mobile, 3, Channel 4 and ITV) and that it achieves its sales objectives. Both factors are key to the organisation's longer-term plans for growth.Mark Watkins was appointed Director of Sales and Business Development in October 2007. In this latest role, Mark has responsibility for enhancing the relationship of the organisation with its range of blue chip customers (including the BBC, Vodafone, Sky, T-Mobile, 3, Channel 4 and ITV) and that it achieves its sales objectives. Both factors are key to the organisation's longer-term plans for growth.

Prior to this, he has led the company's Mobile Media team and Information Systems and Services division, for which he retains strategic responsibility.

Mark joined the company in 2001 and has more than 15 years of international experience within the telecommunications industry and prior to his current role had spent 10 years in North and South America leading a number of business development programmes with Gridcom. Prior to this, he was a Director with Ernst & Young and led a number of projects in Argentina, Brasil and Chile.
