Crown Castle signs up four new TV channels for Freeview
London, 03 October 2002 - Crown Castle International has announced today that it has signed up four new channels for Freeview, the new digital television service, which will launch on 30th October.
These new TV channels are:
- The Hits a 24/7 music channel from Emap performance, which will be packed full of music videos; short-form programmes; star appearances and 24 hour-a-day interactivity. Viewers will be able to interact with the channel via text and phonelines, enabling them to select videos and enter competitions.
- F tn will bring a distinctive British voice and attitude to the Freeview line-up aimed at viewers aged 13- 44. The channel will showcase content from Flextech's wholly owned channels, Bravo, Trouble, LivingTV and Challenge?. It will include comedy, documentary, reality, lifestyle, talk and drama produced by the some of best UK production companies delivering a fresh entertainment package.
- UK HomeStyle is a new daytime lifestyle channel that brings original UK produced programmes to the multichannel world. Well known faces, hot new talent and a wealth of fabulous ideas for your home, garden and kitchen are brought to the screen in a range of programming specially commissioned by UKTV. Makeovers, factual entertainment, quizzes and cookery, UK HomeStyle covers nearly all programme genres, with content made by the finest production companies in the UK.
- TMF, a highly successful music service currently available in Holland and Belgium is set to launch in the UK as a 24 hour non-stop music channel on the Freeview service. Bringing the glamour of the world's biggest artists, the coolest videos and live performances, it is set to replicate the rhythms and routines of UK family life with dedicated music programming morning, noon and night. Comprising clear-cut viewing targeting specific elements of the family at different times of the day, TMF will include a breakfast zone for kids, popular daytime music, after-school programming for teens and evening music programming aimed at the whole family, with videos for night owls ending the daily schedule
In addition to these new TV channels Crown Castle has also confirmed that there will be five commercial radio services to complement the existing BBC services already available on Freeview.
The new radio services will be:
- Kerrang! - playing music encompassing both contemporary and classic rock genres
- Smash Hits - will reflect the music and style of Smash Hits magazine
- Kiss - will reflect the London based Kiss 100 dance music station
- Oneword - dedicated exclusively to spoken word entertainment
- jazz fm - will play a mix of contemporary jazz and soul as well as specialist programmes covering genres such as blues, latin and traditional jazz
