Crown Castle announce new 13 year contract with the BBC
WARWICK - Tuesday, 08 April, 2003 - Crown Castle UK Limited, one of the UK's leading network infrastructure management companies, has today announced that it has signed a contract with the BBC to roll-out Phase 2 of the BBC's DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting or Digital Radio) network.
The contract will mean that Crown Castle will roll-out and operate 47 new DAB transmitters in the UK. Phase 2 of the BBC's DAB network is scheduled for completion in 2004 and will increase digital radio coverage from the current 65% of the UK population to 85%.
Jenny Abramsky, director of BBC Radio, explained: "Ensuring Digital Radio reaches more people in the UK is an important part of the BBC's digital plans. Because of its importance to us we wanted to be confident that the successful bidder would understand our needs and be able to deliver the network we required on time and to budget."
